Would you like to work in an award-winning team? Sport England is currently recruiting to its RTPI Award Winning In-house Planning Team of the Year 2019. The North Planning Team covers the North West, North East, Yorkshire, the East Midlands and the East of England

Right now, the opportunities to get involved in sport and activity depend too much on your background, your gender, your bank balance and your postcode. We’re determined to tackle this and unlock the advantages of sport and physical activity for everyone.

Looking to achieve the next goal in your career? Want a varied and rewarding role? Want to work on local and national projects? Want an opportunity to influence government sport and activity agenda? We are seeking to add to our experienced and established team of Planning Managers to help deliver our high quality statutory and strategic planning functions. This will include fulfilling our role as a statutory consultee relating to the protection of playing fields and combining strategic planning and development management skills. You will also develop skills around delivering specialist advice, understanding and advocating Sport England’s specialist guidance and to help ensure that the planning system provides environments and places that enable people to benefit from sport and physical activity.

This role will enable you to gain an in-depth understanding of the role and value of playing fields and sports facilities to communities. You will develop good working relationship with local authorities and National Governing Bodies for Sport, such as the Football Foundation and England and Wales Cricket Board through our planning application and strategic work. You will gain valuable experience and unique insight into the wide-ranging role of a statutory consultee. The Planning team role is about protecting playing fields and helping to create active environments where people can be active in their everyday lives and not just through playing sport, where we work with a wider network of partners such as the TCPA or Sustrans. “We want to make the choice to be active easier and more appealing for everyone, whether that’s how we choose to move around our local neighbourhood or a dedicated facility for a sport or activity” – Our Ambition - Active Environments, Sport England Strategy ‘Uniting the Movement’.

We are looking for a planner who is a Chartered Member of the RTPI with several years post chartership experience of experience of working in a Local Planning Authority or planning consultancy, you might have experience of working in another statutory consultee.

Sport England is an arm’s length body of government established by Royal Charter in 1996. We’re responsible for growing and developing grassroots sport and helping more people get active across England. We have a statutory responsibility to protect playing field sites in the planning system.

Together, we won’t stop until everyone has the opportunity, the inspiration and the freedom to get moving. You can help up do this.
