Working in our highly innovative and motivated Development Management Team, our Planning Enforcement Team deal with a range of planning enforcement matters are responsible for protecting the public and the environment by ensuring compliance with both planning and enforcement legislation.

You will be based in Wellington, Telford - a destination of vibrant places and experiences where people love to live, work and play. Sitting in the heart of Shropshire, Telford is the gateway between the Midlands and Wales. Rich in heritage and natural beauty, the borough has a vibrant town centre that’s currently expanding and a 450 acre town park with numerous leisure facilities;

This New Town continues to grow from the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and one of the UK’s first World Heritage Sites to now delivering more than 76 hectares of employment and circa 17,000 new homes up until 2031. Working alongside our busy Development Management Planning Officers and Specialists, the post holder will play a role in achieving the highest standards in the services we provide to the fast paced expansion of our Town.

Joining an experienced team, you will need to have the passion, determination and ambition to make a difference within Telford and Wrekin Council in order to deliver the very best for our residents, businesses and communities through an excellent planning service.

To be the technical lead on all Enforcement matters and other allied legislation across the Borough covering both Planning and Building Control. With specific responsibility for the allocation/ and signing off of all related enforcement cases and enquiries received, and the checking and authorisation of all planning enforcement related legal notices.

You will be expected to:

Have a relevant qualification Planning / Law or equivalent undergraduate degree, a post-graduate qualification in planning or related subject, chartered membership of the RTPI, alongside a proven 12 month experience in Development Management to demonstrate a sound understanding and knowledge of up to date planning legislation and its practical application to development;

Be well-organised and have the ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to negotiate and give clear messages under pressure, alongside excellent customer care and diplomacy in dealing with a wide range of people;
Be able to negotiate improvements/benefits from a scheme, maximising such benefits for the wider public benefit.

You will have -
The possession of a planning or law degree.
Postgraduate Qualification in Planning or related subject Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute


Proven experience of preparation of policy documents
Proven experience to demonstrate a sound understanding and knowledge of up to date planning legislation and its practical application.
Proven experience of working in a regulatory background.
Proven experience of presenting cases to formal legal hearings
Ability to analyse data, government policy and other reports
Good people skills and an ability to influence others both inside and outside the Council


Significant in depth knowledge of planning law, including local, regional and national priorities and developments.
Significant in depth knowledge of building regulations law.


Significant experience in Development Management to demonstrate a sound understanding and knowledge of up to date planning legislation and its practical application to development.
Proven interviewing skills Negotiates improvements/benefits from a scheme, maximising such benefits for the wider public benefit
Proven ability to participate in partnership working.
