Broxbourne Borough Council is seeking to recruit a Planning Enforcer to join its dedicated team, either at a senior level or at principal officer level, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. The working environment is diverse and interesting with both green belt and urban landscapes, including a variety of residential, commercial and retail sites. You will be given responsibility as lead officer for identifying, investigating and remedying breaches of planning control across the borough. Additionally, the officer will be responsible for supervising staff within the planning compliance team, drafting and serving notices and presenting and giving evidence at planning appeals and in court.

This role requires excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise with members of the public and other professionals in an assertive and calm manner. The post is busy and commands a candidate with good organisational skills to manage cases and collate accurate evidence in accordance with legal protocols. You are expected to have had previous experience of working in a planning or another regulatory role, ideally managing staff. The ability to read and measure technical drawings is a requirement, as is a current UK Driving Licence.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes a generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
