Can you help make Gloucester Britain’s Best Small City?

At Gloucester City Council, we are searching for an inspiring and innovative leader to take up one of the most important roles for the future of Gloucester. As our Head of Place, you will be responsible for shaping the long-term future of the City as well as continuing our recent award-winning regeneration of one of the country’s great historic cities.

You will have to lead and work with partners to successfully deliver some significant regeneration projects, such as the £100 million Forum development. And you will be leading our strategic planning policy and development management teams, ensuring we bring forward local plans to create the best possible city for our residents. You’ll also be responsible for our engagement with the business community and helping our economy recover from the pandemic.

As a Head of Service, you will play an active role as part of the council’s senior leadership team, working with councillors, external partners and internal stakeholders to develop and deliver its broader strategies and plans, including tackling climate change and reducing inequalities.

We want you to be passionate about our City, always looking to enhance its reputation and improve the lives of its residents through delivery of great services.

The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a range of community, business, public and private sector stakeholders is a key skill required to be a success in the post.

With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will be able to build strong relationships and have experience of preparing business cases, securing funding or investment, and possess robust project management and problem-solving skills.

We think Gloucester is a pretty special place, and you’ll be able to help us make it even better. If you join us, you will enjoy a supportive, flexible work environment, in one of the best small cities in the UK. So if you feel that you have the relevant skills and expertise to make a difference, we want to hear from you.
