Transport Planner Contract Job Vacancy


Transport Planner Job in one of the central London boroughs for the public sector paying £22ph - £28ph, with a 6+ month contract.

Your new company
This borough is an exciting and dynamic part of London experiencing rapid growth and undergoing a transformation in its transport environment.

The Council has started implementing its new transport strategy by making changes to streets and public spaces aimed at encouraging more active lifestyles, reducing road danger and reducing the impact of transport on local air pollution and climate change. These changes are being delivered at an accelerated pace to respond to the changing demands in the way people travel due to the current public health emergency, the wider public health agenda and the Climate Change Emergency that the Council has declared.

The Transport Strategy & Active Travel Service, working with colleagues across the Council and with partners such as Transport for London and neighbouring boroughs, to deliver the objectives of the borough's Transport Strategy.

Your new role
They are recruiting a new colleague with a transport planning background to take on a complex and challenging work programme. Under the supervision of a Team Leader, you will work on a number of transport planning functions, including monitoring progress against the implementation of the borough's Transport Strategy, Developing action plans, required by the borough's Transport Strategy, future strategy and policy development, responding to transport consultations, and working closely with partners such as Transport for London in securing transport investment. You may also be asked to work on the delivery of public realm improvements.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will be expected to have all or most of the following:

* a broad understanding of transport planning policies, principles and issues;
* experience of working within a recognised project management framework;
* an ability to provide expert advice to elected members, management and less experienced colleagues;
* experience in drafting responses to consultations on behalf of a local authority;
* an ability to draft funding bids and lobby for investment;
* an understanding of the requirements to deliver complex transport or public space projects; and
* a qualification in transport planning, highway engineering, urban design, town planning, regeneration, project management or a related discipline to degree level or equivalent with a proven track record of successful post-qualification practice.

The successful candidate must have very good communication skills and be able to work creatively and constructively within a team, with other parts of the Council and partner organisations. A crucial part of this role will be an ability to work positively with stakeholders, the local community and elected members to deliver projects in line with the Council's priorities.
