We’re currently looking for a Planning Officer to join us on a full-time basis working 37 hours per week.

The Role

As a Planning Officer, you will help deliver an effective, efficient and community-focused planning service across the National Park.

You will be responsible for processing planning, listed building, advertisement and other applications within statutory deadlines, checking applications, undertaking site visits where necessary, and making recommendations to the Principal Planning Officer. You will draft reports and present for planning committee consideration of an application when necessary.

Negotiating with applicants and agents where necessary, you will agree changes in design or other details in line with policy to get the best outcomes.

Proactively monitoring and checking development sites, you will ensure proposals are carried out in accordance with permissions. You will record details of all site visits and produce performance data and reports for monitoring.

You will also investigate alleged breaches of planning control under the Planning Acts and assist with interviewing complainants and witnesses. You will assess whether a breach of planning control has taken place and advise the Principal Planning Officer on action to remedy the breach.

About You

To join us as a Planning Officer, you will need:

- An understanding of analytical techniques and the ability to undertake surveys and research activities

- The ability to research, analyse and present work and conclusions in a systematic, clear, and relevant format

- A professional and customer-focused approach

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written

- An understanding of National Park purposes

- Proficiency in IT, in particular, MS Office

- To be RTPI qualified and Member or working towards/prepared to work towards RTPI qualification and Membership

- A degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent experience

- A full, valid driving licence
