You don’t have to look hard for inspiration in Eden – it’s all around you.

Our district is home to some of Cumbria’s most stunning landscapes and the 2019 Halifax Quality of Life survey rated Eden in the top five places to live in the UK. It could be the ideal backdrop for your career. Eden District has an outstanding, rich and diverse environment, uniquely placed on the edge of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

We are looking to recruit an experienced planning professional to join our busy Development Management Team, someone who can deliver excellent results and play an integral part of an evolving and innovative Council which is forward thinking and embracing new opportunities through technology and transformation.

Development has a key role to play in achieving the Council’s ambitions in regards to sustainable growth, climate change and biodiversity gain. Planning Service is at the forefront of leading this exciting period of change across the district and this post will deal with a variety of important major residential, commercial, employment and tourism proposals, whilst also assisting with the management of the Council’s Development Management function.

You will be an enthusiastic, dynamic and proactive person, who can handle a complex caseload of planning applications, pre application files and planning enforcement files. As part of the supportive, hard-working and motivated Development Management team you should have previous experience of working in planning, dealing with major and complex planning applications, have excellent communication skills and be able to manage and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines.

You will hold a degree in town planning or a related discipline. You should be eligible for membership of the RTPI and be able to demonstrate experience of dealing with a range of planning issues through planning policy or development management work.

The role requires you to travel independently around the District and is based out of the Council’s offices in Penrith, however, home-based working is also supported at the present time.

An essential car user allowance of up to £963 per annum is available and a relocation allowance of up to £5,125 may also be available.
