Planner / Senior Planner

Salary between £28,368 and £39,500 per annum depending on experience plus essential car user allowance

Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Planning Control team covering the historic and growing market towns of King’s Lynn, Downham Market & Hunstanton, as well as parts of the Norfolk Coast Area, the Fens and the Brecks. This is therefore a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful part of the country. If you are looking for your next career move and a fresh challenge, West Norfolk has more to offer than you may at first think.

We have two opportunities for you as either a Principal Planner or Planner/Senior Planner to help shape our Borough’s future. We need you to help balance the new growth planned for the area, with the preservation of the Borough’s unique environment and heritage. Working in our Planning Control team, you will deal with a range of planning issues and related applications, including urban, rural and coastal planning. You will need to carry out your duties efficiently and effectively, using good communication skills to provide our customers with a high quality service.

As a Senior Planner, you will need to be an experienced and fully qualified Planner, with full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and three years minimum post-qualification experience working in the field of Development Control/Management.

As a Planner, you must hold a degree in Town Planning, with at least two year’s experience working in Development Control/Management and eligibility to become a full member of the RTPI.

Why work for us?

King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council is a great place to work and there are lots of benefits our employees can access. Here are some of them:

  • a competitive salary;
  • excellent training and development opportunities;
  • generous leave entitlement (equivalent to 23 days per year, increasing to 26 after 5 years continuous service plus 8 statutory holidays and four general holidays including an office closure between Christmas and New Year);
  • payment of RTPI professional fees;
  • local government pension scheme;
  • a flexible work scheme to enable you to balance work and home commitments;
  • an active Sports and Social Club and associated discounts.
