Senior Planning Officer Job Vacancy


Work for this London Borough, influencing the large regeneration and renewal projects of the local area. Senior Planning Officer: £35ph to £40ph

Your new company
Working as a senior planning officer in this London borough, you will get to work with many complex and interesting commercial and residential applications which deliver significant levels of investment within the borough.

Your new role
You will provide professional recommendations and advice on complex planning issues relating to major planning applications and regeneration projects as required. You will mentor and training of junior staff. Also prepare professional reports and formulate recommendations on complex planning and related proposals for decision to the Planning Committee or by delegated authority. As well as, assessing the validity and supporting the registration of major planning applications as required. Manage small project and planning application teams created in association with area or site-specific planning and regeneration projects or programmes and ensure compliance with performance targets (secured through formal agreement or statutory requirement). Carrying out site visits to check existing features on and adjoining the site and the impact of the proposed development. Negotiate with developers to achieve satisfactory proposals within the context of national, strategic and local policies, standards and guidelines. Liaise with elected Members, members of the public, Resident's Associations and other interested parties, in connection with application proposals, and preparation of relevant correspondence. Preparation of appeal statements and proofs of evidence to justify the Council's decision. Attendance at, and presentation of evidence to, informal hearings and local inquiries as the Council's expert witness and giving assistance to the Planning Inspector as required. Represent, as required, the Development Management Service at meetings with other Services, Groups and Council Departments, Government Departments, statutory bodies, developers, community and other groups, and the general public.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need to work quickly and efficiently as decisions and comments need to be made promptly. You will therefore need a good understanding of the London planning system and enjoy keeping up to date with any policy changes. A recognised RTPI qualification is an added benefit and having worked at, at least officer level within a local authority for 2 years is a necessity. You will need to be able to delegate and work well as part of a team and reports will need to be accurate and delivered professionally.

Work will be mainly remote, with only being required in the office twice a week, as well as site vists.
