The role is within the Development Management section of the Planning Unit where you will be part of a high-quality strategic planning service dealing with a huge variety of applications and competing priorities. You will be politically astute and have a proven track record of dealing with Planning Appeals/JR’s, complex strategic planning issues preferably in London.

 

You will assess planning applications that are referred to the Mayor and work in collaboration with boroughs to deliver the ambitions of the London Plan. You will understand how to apply the London Plan in a pragmatic and sensible way that encourages development and delivers the mayor’s objectives.

A detailed knowledge and understanding of national and regional planning and development issues, legal processes and policy trends are essential. You will be expected to present reports to the Mayor and Deputy Mayors directly, so you will need excellent, written and verbal communication skills. You will also need exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to work successfully with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 

You will have a degree/post graduate qualification in planning or equivalent with eligibility for RTPI membership. You will also have demonstrable post-qualification experience in dealing with sensitive planning issues. 

You should demonstrate in Supporting Statement how they meet the technical requirements for Grade 8 and the behavioural competencies set out in the Person Specification.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). At present GLA staff are working largely from home, with office space available.   Over the coming weeks and months, we will moving to hybrid working, linked to our relocation programme. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
