PRINCIPAL PLANNING OFFICER
Salary: Scale 10 (£36,922 to £38,890 per annum – 37 hours per week (CURRENTLY WITH £4,650 annual market supplement – subject to review)
Starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Planning Officer in the Directorate of Place.
The Principal Planning Officer position is within the Strategic Development Team, who deal with major planning applications for housing developments (300 – 2,500 homes) and large scale employment allocations.
This is a truly exciting opportunity for any planner looking for the opportunity to develop key skills and gain experience of dealing with major and large scale planning applications. The successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to gain significant experience of dealing with major applications. Preferably you will have experience of dealing with major and more complex applications as well as negotiating with applicants. However, we will consider applications from those who have not got this level of experience on the basis that we will look to provide appropriate training and support to achieve this.
You will play an integral role within the planning department of Arun District Council to deliver high quality communities for the future and deliver the vision of the Local Plan.
This position has an extensive amount of public contact, presentation of items at Committee, attendance at public meetings, hearings and other meetings as required. Some out of office hours working is part of the job requirement.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with good problem solving skills and a sound understanding of the development management process.

Flexible working will be considered. We are currently working a hybrid arrangement of both home and office working, which could be considered on a longer term basis for those who prefer this, subject to the requirement to attend site visits, as well as Committee meetings and briefings held at the office approximately once a month.
