Newark & Sherwood District Council is a dynamic planning authority, with a programme to deliver growth in the context of a fantastic historic and natural environment. Our diverse District offers opportunities to become involved in a range of different areas of planning practice working with officers across the Council and the community.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is looking to recruit to the post of Lead Practitioner. Infrastructure provision and delivery, whether it be roads, rail services, utilities, or digital networks, are key to the Council’s ambitions. Without appropriate infrastructure, much of which is directly delivered by partner organisations, our residents cannot have the quality of life and opportunity they can and should expect.

The post holder will have experience of planning or infrastructure programming and will be responsible for liaising and coordinating with a range of providers in order to ensure consistency, influence, and awareness of ambitions, funding, sequencing, blockages, and delivery of significant projects. The post holder will work across organisations and government departments, notably highway authorities, infrastructure providers (including digital providers), the Local Enterprise Partnership, Nottinghamshire County Council, and private developers.

Reporting to the Business Manager – Planning Policy and Infrastructure the post holder would be responsible for supporting the Council’s Infrastructure Delivery Plan, Digital Infrastructure Policy, and annual Infrastructure Funding Statement. The role will also support the commissioning of physical infrastructure, including an A1 vehicular overbridge and supporting the delivery of Town’s Fund and Levelling up Fund projects. You will be educated to degree level and possess Chartered membership of the RTPI or equivalent infrastructure body or extensive comparable experience.

As an employer, we can offer flexible hours, enrolment in to a generous local government pension scheme, agile working, a generous annual leave entitlement that increases with service and discounted gym membership. In addition to this, you will be working with a dedicated team who are committed to providing a high-level service to the wide-range of users across the Council and our partners.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Matthew Norton on 01636 655852.

Closing Date: 12 noon, Monday 17th January 2022

Interviews: Thursday 3rd February 2022

Veterans/family of forces/ex-forces, those in care/care leavers, and candidates who declare a disability (as defined under the Equality Act 2010) will be guaranteed an interview provided they have demonstrated that they meet the essential criteria of the post as detailed in the Person Specification on their application form.
