Principal Development Management Officer

Winchester

£33,653 - £37,876 per annum

The Economy, Transport and Environment department is focused on moving and shaping a prospering Hampshire.  We provide place-based services including investing in and managing our waste, highways and transport infrastructure; managing the environment; leading on climate change; and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Strategic Planning has a varied role to play, including the planning of minerals and waste development, identifying the County’s infrastructure requirements, collecting developer funding and monitoring the progress of developments being built around the County.

Sitting within Strategic Planning, the Development Management team is looking for an enthusiastic, proactive planning officer to join the team.  Managing your own case load, you would be responsible for dealing with County Matters (minerals and waste) and County Council planning applications, including major applications and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) applications.

A confident communicator, you will be capable of writing planning reports, dealing with enquiries from members of the public, other public bodies, applicants and relevant specialists, and presenting planning applications to Regulatory Committee.

Politically astute, you will have experience in working within a political environment and liaising with elected representatives.  You will have excellent personal and project management skills, with capable IT skills to support this.  As a team player you will support the different areas of work that the team undertake, including traded services work for other authorities, enabling a varied workload and an opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in different areas of planning.

Above all we are seeking to recruit people who share our commitment to and passion for our values, and who can demonstrate how they have put these values into practice in their work – could this be you?

You will be required to travel to various locations within Hampshire, and possibly further afield in relation to traded services contracts, and it is essential that you have a current drivers’ licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.

We support and encourage flexible working practices wherever possible to enable staff to maintain a good work/life balance, and as such opportunities to work compressed hours or work from home are available where appropriate. Whilst this role is advertised as full time (37 hours), alternative working patterns will be considered and therefore you are encouraged to apply.
