Contributing to growing the city’s plan to promote spatial development and to protect the quality of York's unique historic, natural and built environment the team are currently progressing a varied work programme including a new Local Plan through examination, which is supported by a dedicated programme manager, the production of supplementary planning documents, neighbourhood plans and a Joint Minerals and Waste plan with neighbouring authorities.

Principal Strategic Planning Policy Officer; you will manage a team and lead on key project areas to deliver the local plan and other strategic planning policy documents and objectives. Providing professional planning advice you will play an active role in the co-ordination of strategic planning across the council. You will have an advanced understanding of strategic planning policy and how it interplays with other place shaping strategies with an ability to work collaboratively across a range of partners and stakeholders. Highly developed influencing and negotiating skills to undertake this role are a must.

Senior Strategic Planning Policy Officer you will help ensure the Council can provide a statutory planning policy framework to meet the needs for development, infrastructure provision and environmental protection and enhancement of the city. Taking a significant role in key project areas to deliver the Local Plan, you will be proficient in project planning ideally having had previous experience of leading project teams carrying out work across a range of different activities. An excellent communicator you will have knowledge and understanding of best practice in this field.

Strategic Planning Technician; providing technical assistance and effective research and information to inform decision-making and policy development you will have knowledge and understanding of research and development techniques and land use monitoring systems including Geographical Information Systems (GIS). With a knowledge of how the town planning system operates you will be skilled in the use of Microsoft office and MapInfo. Proficient in data analysis you will have an ability to communicate technical issues to a range of audiences.

All three posts require you to be educated to degree level within a relevant discipline and ideally hold membership of or eligibility to belong to the Royal Town Planning Institute
