Under the direction of the Senior Planning Officer (Development Management), the post holder is accountable for evaluating a wide range of planning applications that have an impact on Bermuda’s built and natural environment. The post holder conducts site visits and negotiates with applicants to ensure compliance with all relevant planning policies and legislation and makes recommendations to the Development Applications Board, or decisions on behalf of the Director of Planning, based on a professional assessment of projects. The post holder provides technical and professional support services and advice to the public, agents, and other government departments on planning matters. As the need arises, the post holder is also accountable for assisting in the development and formulation of plans and policies affecting the physical and environmental development of Bermuda including conducting research, consulting with the public and resolving objections to draft plans, including presenting resolutions to the Tribunal.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design, Geography, Environmental Studies or a related discipline and must also hold membership in a professional planning institute such as the Royal Town Planning Institute, the Canadian Institute of Planners, the American Institute of Certified Planners or equivalent. The post requires a minimum of three years relevant post-professional planning institute membership experience.
