Senior Planning Enforcement Officer

Salary : £31,346 - £34,728

Location - Ellesmere Port

Our busy planning team is looking for a friendly, motivated and skilled individual to work on a wide variety of complex planning enforcement cases and help us ensure that development is carried out sustainably across the Borough.

Cheshire West and Chester features a rich and varied landscape, with a wide range of urban and rural communities including the main centres of Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich and Winsford. We are a friendly, supportive and innovative planning team dealing with around 4000 planning applications each year, offering the opportunity to get involved in a great variety of residential, commercial/industrial and countryside sites, protecting urban and rural areas including Green Belt and preserving and enhancing our distinct heritage - including the beautiful walled city of Chester with its concentration of listed buildings and Area of Archaeological Importance. 

For our Senior Planning Officer (Enforcement) role, you are expected to have strong practical planning experience in a Local Authority, preferably including experience of successfully carrying out planning enforcement action. Most of all, we are seeking a confident, self-motivated, and diplomatic person with a ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to deliver positive outcomes for the future of the Borough.  You should be able to provide clear and accurate advice to stakeholders and show excellent customer care, verbal and written skills.   

Your main responsibilities will be to manage and resolve complex planning enforcement cases and associated planning applications, and to represent the Council in court and at appeals. You will also be deputising for the Planning Enforcement Team Leader, enabling you to use and develop your leadership skills.

You will demonstrate the ability to work as part of our friendly and committed team of planners and support staff, have extensive experience of dealing with a variety of complex planning issues, be an excellent communicator and show a clear commitment to providing outstanding customer service. The contractual work location for this role is listed above however you may be required to work from a range of work locations or sites within the Borough and may also be required to work from home, depending on the needs of the service.
