Planner (Policy)

Career graded post – SO2 - PO1 (salary ranging from £34,689 – £37,491 inc LW plus currently attracting market supplement of 7% per month)

Full Time and Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to join Lambeth’s Policy and Place-shaping team and support the Council’s ambitious Planning service as it embraces the digital agenda and responds to national changes to the planning system.

Lambeth is a vibrant inner London borough that attracts significant investment and offers a wide range of challenges and opportunities. Stretching from Waterloo and Vauxhall in the north, through Brixton and Clapham in the centre, to Streatham and Norwood in the south, Lambeth has a distinctive mix of places each with its own character and community. Lambeth’s priorities are inclusive growth, climate change mitigation and adaptation, reducing inequality and shaping sustainable, high-quality places and neighbourhoods.

We are looking for a highly organised, self-motivated individual who has an interest in urban development, policy and data. Candidates should have a degree level qualification in Town Planning or a related subject. Eligibility for membership of the RTPI and experience of planning policy work is desirable but not essential. All candidates should have an awareness of planning issues and processes and an interest in and ability to use IT to manipulate data. Experience in GIS is desirable though not essential.

The successful candidate will report to the Principal Planner (Information and Research) and be a key part of the Council’s Planning Policy team. Their work will encompass monitoring of planning data and development trends alongside opportunities to gain experience across a wide range of policy work such as providing policy advice on planning applications, assisting in the development and review of development plan policy and guidance, and assisting in responding to consultations on national legislation and policy and regional policy and guidance.

Lambeth Council is committed to the learning and development of its employees and provides regular training opportunities in accordance with an agreed personal learning and development plan. The Council will also support the successful candidate gain the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) through the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and encourage them to develop in areas of planning that they have a particular interest in. Successful candidates will be able to work flexibly in hybrid arrangements, including an element of working from home. All employees will be expected to work in the Lambeth Civic Centre (which is located in Brixton) on a regular basis (subject to government restrictions).

This post’s salary currently attracts a market supplement of 7% per month.
