There’s more than one reason why we believe Central Bedfordshire is a great place to live and work. Our attractive market towns and beautiful villages surrounded by stunning countryside, all boosted by a prime location, great transport links and a high performing economy are all part of what makes us great. Our location at the heart of the Oxford Cambridge Arc means we need to ensure we can maintain this uniqueness while delivering the aims and principles of this nationally important initiative.

Our recently adopted Local Plan has always been about more than planning just for homes and jobs. It’s about creating communities in a highly sustainable way. This means planning for new and improved roads and transport infrastructure; and new community facilities and services, such as schools, nurseries, shops, sport and leisure facilities. We are embarking on an early review of the Plan and these ambitions will remain but will need to be set in the context of managing the ambitions established by an Arc Spatial Framework.

We are currently planning to deliver up to 39,350 new homes and 24,000 new jobs over the next 15 years. Our aim is to deliver the growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Central Bedfordshire and delivers infrastructure and services to support it and maintain the environmental qualities of the area that our communities value so highly.

You will oversee the project management of strategic scale projects and provide a closely managed, co-ordinated approach to processing and determining major planning applications across Central Bedfordshire, ensuring scrutiny to what is proposed to get the best outcomes for the Council and its residents.

You’ll have a degree or masters in Town Planning with significant Development Management experience within a Local Authority, including dealing with large scale, complex projects. Either with experience of managing a team or as a highly experienced planner in development management looking for the next step up in your career, you will be keen to apply leadership skills to provide a customer focussed service.
