Senior Enforcement Officer

Career Grade: Grade 06 to 4, SCP 19 to 33

Salary: £25,927 to £37,568

Contract: Permanent - Hours: Full Time

The Role

An exciting opportunity has opened in the Planning Enforcement Team with the creation of a new Senior Enforcement Officer post. The post holder will carry out a number of critical functions for the borough including processing complex planning enforcement matters, bringing Empty Homes back into use, monitoring and making safe buildings that may be structural unsound and project management of grant funded heritage projects.

Full details of the role can be found in the attached job description. We are keen to support your training and personal development and offer flexible working, including home working.

Who are we?

With world class coast, countryside, a thriving artist quarter in the Old Town, brimming over with creativity and history, outstanding architecture and a variety of boutiques Hastings is a popular place to live and visit. Low house prices, good schools, beautiful parks, an attractive environment, an outstanding community spirit and a new link road makes a move to Hastings a very positive investment into your future.

Who are you?

What your main attribute will be is that you can demonstrate a good knowledge of planning legislation and have experience working as an enforcement officer 3 years or more. By no means essential, the ideal person for this role will hold an RTPI accredited planning qualification or other relevant qualification.

You’ll have the ability to work under your own initiative making decisions on complex enforcement and other matters, as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines as set out in the Enforcement Policy and other Council targets. You’ll have good knowledge of planning legislation and policy at local, regional, and national levels.  This job would ideally suit someone who has worked as enforcement officer in Development Management for some years and is looking to progress their career.

You’ll have excellent communication and customer-care skills, the ability to work flexibly, which includes working from home, as part of a busy and high performing team, while we will provide you with opportunities to undertake relevant training to help you develop in your role and further progress your career. The job will be wide-ranging and exciting, with an opportunity to deal with all types of enforcement cases, managing your own caseload while working with others in the Service and supporting other Services on Borough wide enforcement matters. The team is fast paced and seeks to work positively in enforcement and to work with planning officers to control unauthorised development and protect the community for local residents. Full details of the qualification and experience required for the roles can be found in the attached job description
