Planning Policy GIS/Data Technical Officer

Opportunities to shape future growth in dynamic Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire

We currently have a number of fantastic opportunities to work within an innovative team in our vibrant and busy Planning Policy, Strategy & Economy team.  This is an exciting time to join the team that is currently working on a huge range of projects, including developing the first joint Local Plan in an area with the fastest growing city economy in the country, incorporating major regeneration schemes and providing new low carbon districts in Greater Cambridge.

The range of opportunities within this Shared Service provides you with an unparalleled opportunity to develop your career, working on some of the most innovative developments in the UK with a group of passionate and dedicated colleagues.

We are committed to delivering a digital first approach to plan making and data driven evidence and we have excellent relationships with local and national innovators in both service design and digitising planning practice from a local government perspective. We are one of the first authorities progressing a digital first local plan and are building capacity and skill in this area, which we would expect all of the roles to engage with.

Greater Cambridge offers a unique opportunity to help plan for the future of the beautiful historic City of Cambridge and its surrounding rural area, which together are home to world renowned universities, hospitals and cutting edge science.  Our combined growth agenda includes a range of new settlements within South Cambridgeshire and urban extensions to Cambridge.  For instance, existing exciting new strategic development projects include Waterbeach new town (11,000 homes), Northstowe new town (10,000 homes) and urban extension developments such as Eddington (3,000 homes) and meeting the planning needs of Europe’s most important biotechnology cluster. The preferred options for our new joint Local Plan include further strategic opportunities to meet our development needs.

We also have clear environmental ambitions and have recently commissioned pioneering work on climate change and meeting net zero carbon to inform our policy development in our emerging local plan.

Greater Cambridge is just 45 minutes on the train from London and is an engine for national economic growth.  We positively encourage flexible working arrangements across our Cambourne and Cambridge City locations, and working at home. We provide excellent ICT support to enable this. If you would like to work in an exciting and enthusiastic team, come and join us!

We are seeking to enhance our support capabilities with an additional Planning Policy GIS/Data Technical Officer to provide a full range of spatial mapping and data related technical services for the Planning Policy Strategy and Economy Team. This appointment grade will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

We are looking for people with the drive to embrace the exciting challenges of this busy Shared Planning Service; there is no better place to develop your career.

For an informal discussion about the roles please contact Jonathan Dixon, Planning Policy Manager on 07514 925952 or Caroline Hunt, Strategy & Economy Manager on 07849 824745

Closing date:  9am Monday 23 May 2022

Interviews will take place 7 to 9 June 2022
