The work we do at Worcestershire County Council matters! We are there for the most vulnerable people in society who need us the most, we are helping to build a successful and growing local economy, we protect our environment, we improve outcomes for our children, young people and families, and we help ensure our residents are healthier, live longer and have a better quality of life. In short, what we do makes a difference to people's lives!

While you are working hard and doing your best for the people of Worcestershire, we will do our best to provide an environment that supports and inspires you. We encourage a great work life balance, we offer a generous annual leave scheme with the opportunities to purchase additional leave, we provide an excellent Pension Scheme and champion opportunities for training, learning, development and career progression.

We have one of the fastest growing economies in the country and it’s something we are incredibly proud of. Our investment into infrastructure is greater now than at any stage in the last 30 years as we strive to ensure Worcestershire is a fantastic place to live, work, travel through and do business in.

The Economy and Infrastructure (E&I) Directorate lives and breathes the County Council’s key priority of Worcestershire being ‘Open for Business’. We promote economic growth by reducing journey times, improving connectivity, and increasing employment opportunities throughout the county. We wouldn’t be able to do any of that without our dedicated staff. Our teams are made up of talented individuals including engineers, planners, surveyors, project managers and civil engineering professionals with a wide variety of skills and qualifications to support the delivery of our corporate priorities.

You’ll be helping to plan and strategise for the roads, rail, schools, waste facilities and other infrastructure required to help shape Worcestershire into a great place to live and work.

Ideally you will have membership of the RTPI or be working towards membership, with knowledge of planning policy, developer contributions and infrastructure funding mechanisms. You will work with developers, other local councils, members and infrastructure providers within a varied and challenging role.

Rewards

In return you’ll get access to lots of training and development and the following benefits:

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (potential to match up to 30 days)
  • Career average pension scheme
  • Relocation package up to £10,000 (subject to terms and conditions)
  • Access to a range of leisure, fashion, travel and lifestyle discounts.

Flexible Working

We are proud to offer flexible working as standard, so that you can split your time between the office and home.

Equality

Worcestershire County Council is committed to promoting equality and diversity and ensuring that all appointments are made based on the suitability of a candidate to the role only.

We are inclusive – this is important to us, and we are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. Disability Confident is helping us recruit and retain great people to meet our workforce needs. If you have a disability and require reasonable adjustments, please let us know.

In line with the "Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, we do not automatically reject applicants with a criminal record. Every application will be considered individually, considering the nature and circumstances of the conviction and the type of work applied for. You will not be asked to disclose 'spent' convictions unless the work requires access to children and vulnerable adults.

Application closing date: 23 May 2022.

Interview date: 16 June 2022.
