Business Manager - County Planning, Minerals and Waste
Cambridgeshire County Council’s Place and Economy Directorate delivers services across areas such as transport, new infrastructure, roads and the environment. It aims to manage and deliver the growth and development of sustainable communities, meet the challenges of climate change and enhance the natural environment.
The County Planning, Minerals and Waste Service is looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic professional who will oversee and provides leadership in terms of County development management, monitoring and enforcement and minerals and waste policy. You will lead a well-established and successful team in the delivery of key transport, education and community infrastructure through the planning process across Cambridgeshire, ensuring that the impacts of major new developments and nationally significant infrastructure projects are fully mitigated and that new communities are sustainable.
This role is an excellent opportunity to lead three key areas of the planning workstream; from planning policy, development management, and enforcement and monitoring, whilst also being influential on emerging Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). The successful candidate will need to be able to manage and inspire all team members working across the whole planning workstream and to lead complex planning applications, representing the Council at Planning Committee and Appeal where necessary, alongside county and district council meetings and regional meetings. A sound town and country planning background will be essential, as will the right managerial skills to develop the whole team. Whilst experience of minerals and waste is desirable for the role, it should not put candidates off applying, as transferable skills and planning knowledge is the essential criteria for the new post holder.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional and technical advice to discharge the Council’s responsibilities and will provide professional advice to officers and Planning Committee. This will include leading on mineral and waste planning policy support to Peterborough City Council as part of the Councils’ joint plan making arrangements. The ability to assist with complex caseloads and sign off decisions and reports will also be expected.
As an experienced Town and Country Planner, you will either be a Chartered Member of, or eligible for chartered membership of, the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) and will be ready to further develop your career in County Planning. In return, the Council offers a variety of benefits including Local Government Pension Scheme, flexible working and an opportunity to be a key participant in delivering an ambitious and wide ranging growth agenda.
We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we believe benefits our employees, the organisation and our communities.
