Your New Role

The main objective of planning policy is to create plans to guide sustainable and beautify development across the city meeting the cities growing needs.

The role is responsible for managing the Planning Policy function within the Planning & Economic Growth Service. You will deliver an efficient and effective customer and community focussed planning policy service to deliver sustainable development and growth within Portsmouth.  

This is a role which contributes to the sustainable development and long term economic prosperity of Portsmouth and the wider area.

You will bring strong leadership to this planning policy role, supporting the development of staff and the integration and modernisation of planning systems in response to new legislation and guidance.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will have a relevant planning degree and/or relevant Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.  You will also have extensive knowledge of planning legislation and extensive experience of working within a Local Planning Authority as well as experience of working with communities, Members and other stakeholders in a planning policy environment.

You will have a clear understanding of the role planning policy plays in delivering  regeneration and the ability to provide leadership on planning and regeneration matters.  

You will have strong strategic and leadership skills to provide a high quality planning policy service working across multiple areas in a complex environment. You will demonstrate the ability to act as a catalyst for change and take forward new ideas.
You will be committed to team success. You will work with others to reach a common goal; sharing information, supporting colleagues and searching out expertise and solutions from relevant partners and/or the communities you serve.

You will also be strategic and situational in your leadership, leading by example through your behaviours and professional approach to work; inspiring your colleagues and driving for positive outcomes for the city.
