Principal Planning Officer (Enforcement) - Development Management

Salary: £39,571 - £43,570 per annum plus market supplement of £3,000, Essential Car User Allowance of £1,239 per annum, a recruitment payment of £3000 (and for eligible candidates a relocation package)

Chichester District is a highly attractive place to work, and we are seeking a Principal Planning Officer to join our enforcement team. Home to several historic towns and villages, including the cathedral city of Chichester, the district comprises beautiful countryside stretching from the south coast to the Surrey border. Within this varied environment, the opportunities to deal with a wide range of planning issues should not be missed.

Lying within easy reach of Brighton to the east and Southampton to the West, the district not only has a thriving economy and pressures for residential and commercial growth, but it also covers part of the South Downs National Park, the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and has a rich and varied heritage. We seek to protect and enhance these important assets whilst meeting the growing needs of our communities.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated individual to work in a fast-paced enforcement environment dealing with a range of breaches of planning control, their investigation, enforcement, and prosecution as necessary. In addition, you will contribute to the supervision of three Planning Officers and a Technical Administrative Assistant and will be required to represent the Authority at appeals and be its witness in court proceedings. The post would be suitable for a qualified and experienced planning individual with excellent communication and presentation skills. You should have a minimum of three years post qualification experience and previous experience of dealing with complex planning matters and supervision and mentoring of staff. Providing excellent customer care is important to us, and so we are seeking a planner who is positive, a team player, organised and committed to meeting the needs of our customers.

Chichester District Council offers flexible working patterns including homeworking, the option of a 9 day fortnight, in addition to options to buy additional annual leave, and payment of RTPI subscriptions. The Council recognises the importance of staff well-being and promotes a healthy work/life balance, including the ability to operate from home as well as from the office, reduced membership fees at Everyone Active leisure centres and access to a wide range of other fitness activities and social clubs. Staff can use an additional 30 minutes per week towards any Wellbeing service we provide at the council or to take part in a class at an Everyone Active Leisure Centre.

Closing date: Monday 1 August 2022
