Are you an ambitious planning professional ready to hit the ground running at Runnymede Borough Council? This is the opportunity for you.

This is a key role, in the service. The primary function of the job is to manage the Council’s Enforcement, CIL and Specialists team and to assist the Corporate Head of Development Management and Building Control and the Development Manager in the delivery of the wider service.

The team is currently fully staffed with permanent team members, and comprises of 4 Enforcement Officers, one Tree Officer and a CIL officer as well as matrix management of other staff.

It is an excellent time to join Runnymede with a recently adopted Local Plan which provides significant opportunities to work on large and interesting projects. Our aim is to deliver growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Runnymede and delivers infrastructure and services to support it.

We’re looking for an experienced planning professional who has the knowledge and interest to carry out this key specialist role. The ideal candidate would have practical experience of complex enforcement and some management or supervision experience, though we are keen to hear from candidates with a wide range of planning experience. In particular we need someone with strong communication and negotiation skills and a customer focused approach.

The successful candidate should be an effective manager of people and resources as well as a good negotiator. You’ll lead on complex and interesting cases while managing an experienced and well skilled team.

Personal qualities are just as important as professional skills. The successful candidate must work in a highly collaborative way with other functions, be persuasive while respecting the views of others, possess tact and diplomacy, be resilient and handle stressful situations well.

In addition to a competitive salary, Runnymede Borough Council offers:

  • Generous annual leave of up to 32 days (29 days initially, 32 after 2 years service)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Health care scheme (after 3 years service)
  • Payment of professional fees
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Where applicable, a relocation benefits package and mortgage/rental equalisation scheme

Our modern offices, based in Surrey on the edge of London, are in Addlestone town centre which is on the main line to London Waterloo and with easy access from the M3 and M25. We are also able to offer flexible working and home working for part of the week.

Access to free parking for part of the week is also available and wellbeing activities such as yoga, led walks and table tennis take place on site and gym facilities are located nearby. Addlestone also has a new cinema, restaurants and a Waitrose within walking distance.

We would welcome the opportunity to tell you more about the role.  Please call Ashley Smith, Corporate Head of Development Management and Building Control (07825048820) or Victoria Gibson, Development Manager (01932 425256) to find out more.
