The Peak District National Park is a treasured landscape that has been shaped by the long interaction of natural and cultural forces. You will play an important role in maintaining the balance between people and nature to ensure that the Park can be enjoyed for generations to come.

What’s more, we are based between Manchester, Sheffield and Derby, making this the ideal opportunity to break away from city life and commute to the country.

The Role

As a Senior Planner, you will support our Planning Service in guiding and managing planning and developments within the national park.

Reporting to the Area Team Manager, you will process planning applications and associated development management matters. You will negotiate with applicants on planning applications and prepare reports and recommendations for the Planning Committee. You will also provide advice to junior staff, applicants and members of the public on planning matters, prepare case documentation on planning appeals, including formal hearings and public inquiries and advise the Authority’s Policy Team on the monitoring and development of planning policies.

About You

To join us as a Senior Planner, you will need:

  • Experience of development management practice, planning law and regulations
  • Effective negotiation skills and the ability to make balanced judgements
  • Good IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and databases
  • An RTPI final qualification and relevant experience, ideally in a similar rural context

RTPI membership would be desirable. Evidence of continuing professional development in planning and related subjects would be beneficial to your application, as would knowledge of design and/or construction issues and rural planning and/or conservation issues.

Flexible Working

A range of flexible working options would be considered. If you would like to discuss this, please contact us.
