Manchester is a world class city with ambitious plans for sustainable growth.  We are not just recovering from the pandemic, we are reinventing what a post-pandemic city is, re-drawing the lines between living in the city, working, shopping, going out and having fun.

Do you have the qualities and passion to play a key role in shaping this dynamic modern city?

The Planning Service is looking to recruit various planning, compliance and technical officers to help support the development, regeneration and compliance activity in the City.  We are currently advertising the following roles:

Planning Officers (Development Management) and (Urban Design and Conservation)

Assistant Planning Officers (Development Management)

Planning Compliance Officers; and

Planning Technicians (Development Management).

The roles would be within the Planning Service in the development and implementation of the Council's planning policies for the physical regeneration of the City of Manchester or development compliance where breaches of planning control are investigated.

Working with varying issues, both in the office and on site, the successful candidates would need to demonstrate considerable initiative and professional judgment together with a positive attitude and be effective in negotiator. The posts require a RTPI recognised planning qualification and/or significant knowledge and experience of working in development management (except for the planning technician roles).

You will need a sound working and practical knowledge of legislation and current issues, together with excellent communication skills and a high level of initiative.

This post is also subject to satisfactory references and other pre-employment checks where applicable.

As a fixed base worker, you would work from specific locations. This could be because you use specialist equipment or because you work with the public from a fixed location. You may work from more than one fixed location and you would usually have a dedicated workspace or team area. Your hours and times of work may be more flexible depending on the type of role you have.
