Are you a highly skilled, experienced policy planner looking for a new challenge and to make your next career move?

As a Senior Planning Policy Officer, you will play a key role in our planning policy team, working on a wide range of high-profile planning policy matters affecting the city and the wider south Worcestershire area including the review of the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

You will need to provide high quality advice and written reports to council committees, elected members and other stakeholders and generally assist and support the Planning Policy Manager in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of a wide range of interesting and extremely rewarding planning policy related work. You will also work closely with development management colleagues advising on key planning policy issues associated with major planning applications.

The key requirements are:

  1. You should be a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.
  2. Degree or equivalent in Town Planning/ Urban and Regional Planning or a related subject
  3. Extensive knowledge, understanding and experience of planning legislation, planning policy and the plan-making process.

As an experienced planning policy officer, you should have relevant Town and Country Planning or equivalent qualifications and experience in order to contribute effectively to the work of the planning policy team. You should be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of planning legislation and the formulation and application of planning policy. You should also have direct experience of developing and implementing projects, plans and planning policy documents to ensure an up-to-date planning policy framework reflects statutory requirements, national and regional planning policy and guidance, and the council’s priorities.

This role is perfectly suited to someone who is self-motivated and can demonstrate strong communication and presentational skills.

You will contribute to the monitoring of s106 legal agreements, receipt and spending of s106 developer contributions and Community Infrastructure Levy funding, including the production of annual Infrastructure Funding Statements. You will be involved in Infrastructure Delivery Plan formulation and will support specialist consultants on development plan viability assessment. You will also contribute to the drafting of responses government consultations relating to national planning matters.
