Principal Planning Officer

Salary: £39,493 to £42,503

Rutland County Council are looking for a Principal Planning Officer to be responsible for a small team of officers and contribute towards the provision of a comprehensive Development Management service through their specialist skills and overall knowledge of planning and development issues.

If you have a good understanding of current planning issues and legislation, experience of negotiating and monitoring Section 106 agreements and knowledge of planning policy regulations, we would like to hear from you.

About the role…
The Principal Planning Officer will provide professional and technical support as part of a comprehensive, customer-orientated planning service focused on achieving Rutland County Council’s priorities as well as working in partnership across Rutland, the Region, and the Local Enterprise Partnership area. Other duties include:

  • Support the development Manager in ensuring that all national and local performance targets for the operation of the Council’s Development Management service are met.
  • Provide advice and deal with planning enquiries from elected Members, Parish Councils, and members of the public.
  • Act as a case officer for larger / complex applications, negotiating amendments as necessary and preparing and presenting reports to Council meetings.
  • Preparing statements for planning appeals and presenting evidence at Hearings and Public
  • Inquiries Supervise staff and allocating work to deal with non-administrative aspects of handling planning, listed building and advertisement applications from receipt through to the drafting of recommendations to Committee.
  • Deputise for the Development Manager in their absence.

About you…

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent (preferably in Planning)
  • Member of RTPI (or eligible to join)
  • A positive attitude and approach to work
  • Good organisational and analytical skills
  • Excellent report writing skills and the ability to produce effectively written documents, emails and letters.

The Principal Planning Officer interviews will be held week commencing 13th March 2023.
