We have an opportunity for you to join us at the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk and can offer this to you at different levels to either get your career off to a great start or as a fresh challenge for you. Whatever level you start with us you will be able to develop further through our supported progression scheme.

We are a large borough with diverse landscapes ranging from the Norfolk Coast AONB in the north, to the Fens and the Brecks in the South. This gives you the opportunity to be involved with rural issues and urban regeneration, and coastal planning as well as major developments proposed within the main towns of King’s Lynn, Downham Market and Hunstanton. West Norfolk provides a beautiful environment in which to live and work with the council offices based in King’s Lynn, a medieval town and port with an outstanding conservation area.

As Planner (starting salary from £35790 and £42294), you will hold a degree in Town Planning with at least two years relevant work experience and be eligible for full membership of the RTPI. You can progress through to Senior.

As a Graduate Planner (starting salary between £28536 and £33678), you will be fully qualified (with an RTPI accredited degree) and some experience or you will need to undertake a formal planning qualification alongside gaining relevant experience, or. For both routes, you can progress through to Planner, then Senior.

As Assistant Planner (starting salary between £25284 and £27372), you will have a minimum 3 A’ levels (or equivalent) and willing to undertake a formal qualification in Town Planning to then progress to Graduate Planner all the way through to Senior.

You will have excellent communication and customer-care skills and will be enthusiastic about gaining development management experience in all aspect of urban, coastal and rural planning You will take responsibility for the effective negotiation and resolution of planning applications, ultimately achieving high quality development which supports growth and regeneration whilst protecting the environment and conserves the historic character of West Norfolk.

You will help shape our borough’s future, balancing the new growth planned for the area, with the preservation of the borough’s unique environment and heritage. You will deal with a range of planning issues and related applications, including urban, rural and coastal planning.
