Strategic Planning Manager

About The Role

Are you interested in playing a key role in shaping the future development of Great Yarmouth?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced planner to lead our Strategic Planning Team with the key responsibility of overseeing the preparation and delivery of the Council’s Local Plan and strategic planning priorities, as well as oversight of some of our major developments, including a new hospital site, waterfront development at North Quay and our largest housing developments.

We are ambitious about our place and what comes next. Our rich built environment is at the heart of our well-established programme of regeneration.

Great Yarmouth is well placed for the future. We are at the heart of a multi-billion-pound clean energy revolution as the closest place in the country for UK offshore energy sector growth. Our inspiring programme of regeneration includes the recently announced rejuvenation of the historic Winter Gardens, a new waterfront development at North Quay and improvements to our historic marketplace.  In addition, Great Yarmouth will become a university town in early 2025 and will see the completion of an operations and maintenance campus which will support the offshore energy sector.   The Borough will also benefit from a brand-new hospital and major housing and employment developments. With issues as diverse as economic regeneration, housing need, coastal change, internationally protected habitats and flood risk, Great Yarmouth is the perfect place to lead a high performing Strategic Planning team.

Now is an exciting time to join the Council.  Work is underway on the preparation of a new Local Plan which will need to help facilitate the Council’s ambitions and address the key issues faced by the Borough. There will also be an opportunity to lead on the facilitation of key strategic developments through the planning process such as the new hospital and other strategic local plan allocations.  This role involves managing a team of professional planners, technical and administrative staff providing an opportunity to develop and refine multi-disciplinary management skills.

Closing date: 21st July 2024

Interview date: w/c 22nd July 2024 and w/c 29th July 2024

If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact Sam Hubbard, Head of Planning on 01493846624.

About You
