Planner/Graduate Planner
Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn with Flexible/Hybrid working arrangements
Salary: £28,536 - £43,542 per annum depending on level, plus essential user car allowance
Permanent – Full Time
We have an opportunity for you to join our Planning Policy Team at the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk and this role can be offered to you at different levels to either get your career off to a great start or as a fresh challenge for you. You will be able to develop further through our supported progression scheme.
We are a large borough with diverse landscapes ranging from the Norfolk Coast protected landscape, the Fens, Brecks, and built-up areas. This gives you the opportunity to be involved with rural and urban planning matters including regeneration and coastal planning as well as major developments in and around the main towns of King’s Lynn, Downham Market and Hunstanton. West Norfolk provides a beautiful environment in which to live and work with the council offices based in King’s Lynn, a medieval town and port with an outstanding conservation area.
As a Graduate Planner (starting salary between £28536 and £39,093 depending on your level within our progression scheme), you will be fully qualified (with an RTPI accredited degree) with some experience and be eligible for full membership if the RTPI. You will be eligible to progress through to Planner, then Senior Planner.
As a Planner (starting salary from £35,790 and £43,542), you will hold a degree in Town Planning with at least two years relevant work experience and be eligible for full membership of the RTPI. You will be eligible to progress through to Senior Planner.
You will help shape our borough’s future, balancing the new growth planned for the area, with the preservation of the borough’s unique environment and heritage. You will deal with a range of planning matters, including urban, rural, and coastal planning.
You will have excellent communication and customer-care skills and will be enthusiastic about gaining experience in all aspect of planning policy. We need you to provide professional expertise in the preparation, monitoring and review of the Borough Council’s next Local Plan, Design Code, and related supporting policy documents. You will raise the profile of the Local Plan and provide expert guidance to colleagues, Members and customers as well as representing the Borough Council at meetings with outside bodies, on a range of planning policy matters.
