We are seeking to appoint a new Planning Manager to the Development Management Team. With a new team in place and with a new directorate, new leadership and with staff buy in to a service action plan, you’ll be leading the Development Management service that is driving service improvement and that is the East Midlands RTPI 2024 LPA Team of the Year.
We are an aspirational authority, with clear strategy and focus, allowing you to use your skills and influence to make an impact.
Leading an enthusiastic, dedicated Development Management team by example, you’ll make the most of the huge investment and regeneration going on across the Borough. Like us, you’re ambitious, driven, and keen to take on varied projects – the more challenging the better.
You’ll be the person to work alongside the Director - Community Services and Head of Planning to take the Development Management service forward. Working closely with colleagues and your team, you’ll lead by example and ensure continual service improvement. You’ll be responsible for managing the Development Management service, including Planning Enforcement, with three Team Leaders reporting to you, and overseeing the external Local Land Charges service. You will be responsible for managing and leading colleagues in liaising with Members, including presenting items to Planning Committee and will report to the Head of Planning.
You’ll have extensive post qualification experience and a proven track record in a planning environment. You’ll be able to confidently manage and co-ordinate the delivery of the borough’s Development Management service including planning applications, appeals, enforcement, and all related matters. You will ensure everything you do is in accordance with our policies, practices, and procedures.
Hinckley and Bosworth is an attractive area to work, and the role will be hybrid working, with days working from home and days working from the modern offices at the Hinckley Hub. The borough is made up of the main town of Hinckley, with development interest in the settlements of Earl Shilton, Barwell, Market Bosworth and Burbage and the wider rural villages across the borough. There will be an opportunity to lead on significant development projects, including two sustainable urban extensions, of which 1,500 dwellings have just been approved at Earl Shilton, research and development growth opportunities at Horiba Mira and redevelopment site opportunities together with edge of settlement major applications.
Further we are also progressing our new Local Plan, due out for consultation this summer and to include strategic site allocations.
We expect applicants to have recent local government experience. We can offer you the opportunity to further develop your career within an excellent authority, with the benefits of flexible working, flexitime, a local car user allowance policy and professional development opportunities.
If you feel you have the ability to meet these challenges, we would love to hear from you.
