The role
The Strategic Applications Team manages the largest planning applications in the rest of the borough, including large regeneration schemes in Canada Water, the Aylesbury Estate and Peckham. These projects involve many policy areas, often require GLA referral and may include environmental statements.
We are recruiting a planning officer to work in our Strategic Applications Team. The role will involve working on some smaller applications of your own and supporting colleagues on larger schemes with conditions and amendments. The role provides for opportunities to learn and develop your planning skills, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on large applications from pre-application to decision and implementation. Dealing with mixed-use commercial and residential schemes to student housing proposals, the position would suit a planner looking to extend their development management experience working on some of the most exciting developments in London.
Key duties and responsibilities of the role
- Delivering complex and specialised town planning services including development management, the preparation of planning policy, transport planning services and delivery of planning related projects in accordance with recognised performance standards and delivery plans
- Contributing to decisions and recommendations regarding development management, planning policy, transport planning services and planning projects and activities that will have lasting effects on the development of the borough and impacts on the local environment, economy and community
- Providing advice on the statutory planning process reaching high standards of clarity and accuracy and to ensure that the impacts of planning and transport policy and decisions are properly monitored and reported to demonstrate that they are effective in achieving the council’s aims
- The post holder will provide advice with the potential to impact on the legal, reputational and financial risks faced by the council
