Are you a town planner looking for the next step in your career, a newly qualified graduate in planning or related subject looking to start out on your career, or working in a field related to planning and want a new challenge? If yes, we encourage you to read on.

Teignbridge are a progressive District Council in the Southwest with an area covering from the west side of Exeter, to Dartmoor in the north and the coast line to the south. We operate out of modern, decarbonised offices in Newton Abbot which has excellent road and rail links.

We are seeking two Planning Officers to join our dynamic Development Management team. You will work alongside a like-minded group of Planners and Technical/Administrative Support Staff who all work together to deliver high-quality developments, improve the quality of the built and natural environment across the district, to help make Teignbridge a healthy and desirable place to live, work and visit.

Our team have made significant progress in the last six months turning our performance around and meeting best practice in our decision making and we are looking for others who share that desire for great customer service.

Each available position will be within one of the two area-based teams carrying a case load of varying types and scale of application, dealing with all stages of the development management process. This will include giving pre-application advice, making site visits, writing reports, making recommendations on your own cases, discharging conditions, and representing the council in appeals and at planning committee.  Depending on your current level of experience, and qualification, our friendly, supportive and positive team, including dedicated one to one time with an Area Team Manager, will provide you with guidance, support and development opportunities to help you succeed and progress.

We are an equal opportunities employer committed to a diverse and inclusive organisation. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of their age, caring responsibilities, disability, gender/sex, gender reassignment/trans status, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and socio-economic status. We also welcome applications from military veterans and their families.

Teignbridge is a beautiful area of South Devon which stretches from the west side of Exeter, with Dartmoor to the north and the coastline to the south.

Serving a growing community of c.134,800 residents, and a thriving tourist population, Teignbridge District Council is a forward-thinking authority with a firm focus on what’s truly needed in the long term. With a clear ten year strategy; sustainable travel, high-quality neighbourhoods, collaborative partnerships, healthier living, and quality affordable housing all feature highly in pursuit of “making Teignbridge a healthy and desirable place where people want to live, work and visit”.

We would be delighted to speak to you on a confidential and informal basis if you would like more information.

We can offer:

  • A generous flexi scheme with up to 2 days flexi per month that can be taken.
  • A monthly car allowance and mileage accrued whilst carrying out duties.
  • Free car parking (with close access to a mainline train station).
  • Hybrid working – part office based, and part home based.
  • A refurbished modern zero carbon emissions office space.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Generous annual leave and wellbeing package.
  • Paid Professional Membership (RTPI) fee subject to local terms & conditions.
