An opportunity has arisen to join our Planning team with responsibility for dealing with all aspects of planning enforcement including flyposting, state of land matters, unauthorised works to protected tress and listed building contraventions. You will also be required to give advice and guidance to members of the public and developers on a wide range of planning enforcement related issues, such as permitted development rights.
You will be involved in investigating and carrying out assessments of various types of development to determine whether a breach of the regulations has occurred. You will follow through the investigation to conclusion, which could involve attendance at Planning Committee meetings, the service and issue of formal notices, prosecuting those responsible for breaches and representing the Council at planning enforcement appeals. You will work with Planning Officers and colleagues in other departments to secure the most appropriate solution in each case and recommend a suitable course of action to the Heritage & Planning Enforcement Team Leader.
You will have a full driving licence and a planning related qualification or the equivalent experience in a planning related area.
Key responsibilities:
- Work under the general direction of the Team Leader for Heritage & Planning Enforcement to deliver the Planning Enforcement Service including:
- Enforcing the planning and advertisement regulations.
- Investigating breaches and working with others to achieve compliance.
- Monitoring all planning permissions to ensure that they are carried out in accordance with approved plans and planning conditions.
- Supporting the work around development contributions.
- Keeping up to date with new regulations and guidance, delivering new policies and procedures to effectively implement them in line with Lean principles.
Provide advice to the Team Leader for Heritage & Planning Enforcement in relation to the day-to-day operational issues/service and enhancements to service delivery particularly relating to customer care and improving the quality of the service.
Actively and positively participate in joint working as required and provide advice to other officers about planning enforcement, including the Planning Officers (Career Grade), to achieve the agreed performance standards and ensure effective cross-working and co-operation within and between teams across the wider service area and corporately.

- Understanding of planning legislation, regulations, standards and guidance.
