NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL

Head of Planning

Salary: up to £71,512 and relocation up to £8,000

Location: Norwich Hybrid

Contract type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: 37 per week

Heading up our Planning service in Norfolk, you’ll lead a talented multidisciplinary planning team and play a pivotal role in maintaining Norfolk’s reputation as a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

This is a varied and dynamic role due to the unique combination of rural, urban and coastal diversity Norfolk is blessed with. Working collaboratively, you’ll help to support economic growth while balancing sustainable development, you’ll help to shape key decisions regarding the planning of projects to build schools, transport infrastructure, minerals and waste sites, and work closely with colleagues on environmental initiatives and heritage schemes.

Reporting to the Lead Director of Communities and Environment, you will provide expert insight and guidance to our Executive Leadership Team, senior managers and Elected Members and work with partners across the public, private, and education sectors, driving forward our broad range of development programmes.

We’re looking for someone with comprehensive planning expertise, regulatory knowledge and political acumen, a strategic thinker and inspiring leader with sound judgement and decision-making skills. Do you fit the bill? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

New to Norfolk? It has so much to offer – and with a generous re-location package, we guarantee Norfolk is a great place to live and work offering the perfect balance for you and your family. read this recent endorsement of East Anglia from Lonely Planet - one of the best destinations for travel in 2025.
