Position Overview

Snowdon Homes is excited to welcome a passionate and ambitious Graduate Town Planner to our team. This entry-level position is designed for recent graduates and planners with up to 12 months working experience who are eager to launch their careers in town planning within the housing development sector. The Graduate Town Planner will work closely with the Land and Planning Manager, gaining hands-on experience in planning applications, regulatory compliance, site assessments, and the commercial and technical appraisal of potential land acquisitions. Key Responsibilities

  • Planning Support: Assist in preparing and submitting planning applications, ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist with checks to ensure projects adhere to local, regional, and national planning regulations and policies.
  • Site Assessments: Assist with site visits and gather essential information to support planning proposals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support interactions with local authorities, community members, Housing Associations, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective planning processes.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct research on planning trends, policies, legislation, and market conditions to support project development.
  • Report Preparation: Assist in compiling reports, briefs, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commercial & Technical Appraisal: Support the evaluation of potential land acquisitions through basic financial analysis and technical assessments.
  • Project Coordination: Aid the Land and Planning Manager in coordinating planning activities and managing project timelines.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of planning applications, correspondence, and related documents.
  • Learning & Development: Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance planning and appraisal skills.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning & town planning
  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of local planning regulations, planning laws, and development processes.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational and time-management abilities, with keen attention to detail.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse planning and commercial information and contribute to effective solutions.
  • Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Motivation: Eager to learn, proactive, and committed to professional growth in town planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: Eligibility for membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or equivalent.
  • Internship Experience: Previous internship or work experience in town planning, land development, or a related field.
  • Project Experience: Exposure to residential development projects, particularly within the housing association sector or open market housing.
  • Sustainability Knowledge: Basic understanding of sustainable development principles and green building practices.
